Cinque Terre, or five lands, are five picturesque villages along the Italian Riviera coast that were once reachable only by sea or footpaths. Today they're connected by train and although the villages are still traffic-free, they can be reached by car or bus, too. There are popular hiking trails between the villages as well as in the scenic hills above them. During the day, the villages are crowded with tourists but in the evening they can be savored without the crowds.
See Hiking Cinque Terre trails for an overview of the hikes. To use the trails you need to buy a Cinque Terre Card.
