July is a big month for festivals in Tuscany, such as Il Palio in Siena and the Puccini Opera Festival in Torre del Lago Puccini, near Viareggio. But Florence does have a few festivals to look out for when visiting in July.
All month - FirenzEstate. Florence's summer festival runs from May to September, and features film and theater events, contemporary and classical music performances, and art exhibitions.
Mid- to late-July - Florence Dance Festival. Florence's biggest contemporary dance festival, a highlight of the Firenze Estate program, runs for two weeks during July, sometimes taking place in such unusual venues as the Bargello. For more information, visit the Florence Dance Festival website.
