Gelato: Italian Ice Cream Comes in a Bewildering Array of Flavors

Martha Bakerjian
The Best Gelato in Italy?:

Why settle for just the best gelato in Rome when you can have the best gelato in Italy? Young Palmero Bruschi won the Italian ice cream championship. His shop, Gelateria Creperia Ghignoni, is just across the Tuscan border from Umbria, on the outskirts of Sansepolcro. Palmero likes to create innovative flavors. This is a friendly, family-run place (you're likely to be served by Palmero's mother) where you won't pay extra to sit inside or on their patio. As the name implies, they also make crepes.

Own Your Own Gelateria:

We were sent to Palmero's shop by a friend of his, the owner of La Preghiera Guest House, who is trying to talk Palmero into opening a franchising his operation. So if you like his gelato, maybe you can talk him into a franchise in your town.

Gelateria Creperia Ghignoni:

you'll probably need a car to get there
