After a busy day of sight-seeing in crowded Florence, it's wonderful to return to the peace and quiet of the villa. In the heat of the summer, the hills of Florence are cooler and the villa's pool is a great place to beat the heat or just sit and relax.

Families or groups will find the villa's accommodations especially appealing. With use of the sofa bed, apartments can accommodate four people each and adjoining apartments can be combined for more people. Large groups can even rent the entire villa, which can sleep up to 47 people total. It's convenient to have a kitchen where you can prepare a meal or store picnic foods and not have to eat out all the time.

The villa is a good option for those traveling by car. Driving to the villa is easy and parking is safe and secure.

Villa Le Piazzole is available for meetings, parties, and special events and weddings can be held in the private chapel. Up to 100 people can be accommodated at group functions and lunch or dinner can be arranged.

What Does Villa Le Piazzole Offer?

Villa Le Piazzole has ten very nice apartments, each with a regular bed and sofa bed to accommodate up to four people. Some apartments have a full kitchen while others have a cooking corner. Some beds are upstairs from the main room while others have a canopy bed for privacy. Each apartment is unique but all are beautifully furnished. On the web site it's possible to view each apartment and request the one you prefer. Unlike many vacation apartments, these can be rented on a nightly basis rather than requiring a full week.

There are four deluxe bed and breakfast rooms, each one unique. Each room has a mini-bar and small sitting area, very nice after staying in hotels where there is no place comfortable to sit. The room we stayed in, Terrazza, had a large private terrace overlooking the villa's inner courtyard. It was a great place to enjoy our picnic dinner in the evening.

The apartments and rooms have views of the villa's gardens or the surrounding hills, Certosa monastery, and picturesque countryside. A formal garden leads to the villa. There are outdoor sitting areas and a swimming pool for all guests.

Guests can enjoy a typical Tuscan dinner, including homemade pasta and Florentine steak (bistecca alla Fiorentina), by advance reservation. There is also homemade pizza from the brick pizza oven on request.

Villa Le Piazzole wine and olive oil are available for purchase. Wine tastings in the villa's wine cellar can be arranged on request.

Visiting Florence from Villa Le Piazzole

We walked into Florence from the villa, a very pleasant downhill walk of about 40 minutes. After our peaceful journey it was amazing to suddenly find ourselves at the Ponte Vecchio, just across the river from the historic center of Florence. Taking a different fork, we would have come to Piazzale Michelangelo with fantastic views of Florence.

Villa Le Piazzole is on two bus routes, numbers 36 and 47, that run to Florence's bus depot near the train station. They stop right outside the villa's gate but only run until 8pm. Taxi service is also available and cost 10-12 euro to the center in spring, 2008.

In Florence, we enjoyed a good restaurant lunch, then stocked up on food for a casual evening meal at the villa. There's a restaurant recommended by the hotel, La Vecchia Betola, about five minutes by car but no restaurants within walking distance. The hotel can help with restaurant reservations there or in Florence.

From Florence there are bus and train connections to many of Tuscany's top sights, which are also within easy driving distance for visitors with a car.
