Enjoy our pictures of Lake Bolsena and the picturesque old town of Bolsena above the lake.
Lake Bolsena, or Lago di Bolsena, lies in the crater of an extinct volcano and is the fifth largest lake in Italy. The distance around the lake is 43 kilometers and its surface area is 144 square kilometers. Lake Bolsena is north of Rome in the Northern Lazio region just south of Tuscany (see map).
Bolsena, the main town on the lake, is on the northeastern shore and is a good vacation spot. It has beaches, a harbor, restaurants and hotels, and a medieval historic center surrounded by walls with a castle at the top. These photos of the lake and old town were taken in Bolsena.
