Italian Biglietteria - ticket window where you buy biglietti, or a single biglietto

Martha Bakerjian
Definition: At a Biglietteria, you may buy biglietti (or, if you're alone--un biglietto).

A Biglietteria (la biglietteria) is a Ticket Office or Ticket Window in Italy.

Generally, if you see a sign designating a Biglietteria, this is where you would go to enter a museum or other tourist attraction or to buy transportation tickets. The picture to the right is of a Biglietteria for the boats to Portovenere and the Cinque Terre from Lerici.

This ticket window doubles as an information point, as you can see from the cognate Informazioni written on the sign. Sometimes, such as in large train stations, a biglietteria sells only tickets and information is provided in a separate area usually designated as Informazioni.

Note: Local bus tickets are usually sold in a Tabacchi shop.

Also See: Biglietto, the Italian Word of the Day, with audio pronounciation.

Pronunciation: bigl-i-et-er-EE-a
Examples: At la Biglietteria, you may buy biglietti (or, if you're alone--un biglietto).
