Here are the festivals and events that happen each April in Milan.
Throughout the month - Mercato dei Fiori. Milan's flower fair is the annual sign that spring has finally arrived. More than 200 vendors from around Italy set up shop for the occasion, creating a riot of color along the Naviglio Grande (canal). For more information, visit the Mercato dei Fiori website.
Early April - Holy Week and Easter. As in the rest of Italy, Holy Week and Easter in Milan are commemorated with grand masses and other celebrations. Mid-April - Culture Week. The Settimana delle Beni Culturali is a week celebrated all over Italy, in which state-run museums, which include some of the Top Museums in Milan, and monuments are open for free and, sometimes, for longer hours. The week almost always happens in April, but check the Beniculturali website for definitive dates.
Mid-April - International Furniture Fair. During the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, more than 300 designers and craftsmen from all over the world descend on Milan to display their latest designs and innovations in the world of home furnishings and fixtures. The Salone, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2012, takes place at Milan's huge convention center FieraMilano located in Rho, an exurb of Milan, and in galleries and workshops in the city. April 25 -Liberation Day. April 25 marks the anniversary that Milan and the rest of Italy was liberated at the end of World War II.
