Pavia is a university city on the banks of the Ticino River, 35 km south of Milan in the Lombardy region. (see Lombardy region map for location)
The Basilica San Michele, St. Michael Mayor, is one of Pavia's top attractions. It's a Romanesque style church built in 1090 on the site of a seventh century church. Inside are beautiful mosaics and frescoes.
