The entire surrounding village of Venaria and dukes' hunting preserve were reshaped to incorporate the palace and its many annexes so that they all flowed together into one monumental site. The old town center of Venaria, built between 1667 to 1690, is still part of the complex.
Piazza dell'Annunziata is a large arcaded square that held shops and served as the social gathering place of the village. Also on the square is the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The square is in the middle of the via Mensa, the road leading up to the palace.
