The garden was completely destroyed in the 19th century but etchings and drawings of the original garden were used in creating the new garden. The new garden has the same lines and proportions as the old garden but has a more contemporary style.
In the gardens are the remains of a Temple of Diana, grottoes, foundation of a Hercules fountain, and supporting wall from the original garden. Special events take place in the gardens including Sundays Fit for a King during summer and the Venaria Reale Festival in July.
