Tenuta del Barco is a masseria, or ancient farmhouse, with rooms and vacation apartments near the Ionian Coast of Puglia. Tenuta del Barco has its own private beach a short distance from the masseria, an excellent restaurant for guests, free parking, internet access, and an outside activities area with bar and tennis court.
The masseria produces organic vegetables and fruit for use in their restaurant, olive oil, and very good wine. They're currently working on a visitors center for their winery.
Lodging at Tenuta del Barco
Two types of lodging are available at Tenuta del Barco. The old farmhouse has been made into guest apartments for two to four people, opening onto the courtyard. Our apartment was simply furnished with couch, table, and kitchenette in one room, a large bed in the bedroom, and small but modern bathroom. It was comfortable and quiet and there were plenty of dishes and glasses in the kitchenette as well as bottled water in the refrigerator. Rooms are also available in new cottages built in the pine forest near the farmhouse.
Eating at Tenuta del Barco
The highlight of my stay at Tenuta del Barco was dinner with the excellent cuisine of Chef Pierluigi. Chef uses only fresh ingredients, either grown on the farm or from local sellers, to prepare traditional foods of Puglia and creative dishes. He buys his fish from one of three fishermen who call in the morning to let him know what they've caught that day. Dinners include antipasto, pasta, a main course, and fruit or dessert. Breakfast is included in the lodging price but dinner is extra.
Tenuta del Barco Reservations
Tenuta del Barco Location
The best months to stay at Tenuta del Barco are May, June, or September. July and August are very hot and the coast is crowded.
Thanks to Puglia Center USA for arranging my visit to the Taranto province of Puglia.
