Ravenna Italy Picture: Basilica di San Vitale
Dating from the 6th century, Ravenna's Basilica di San Vitale was built on the site of a 5th century oratory and has an octagonal plan with a large and elegant cupola. Basilica di San Vitale is one of Italy's most important monuments of early Christian art. Mosaic decorations inside represent Justinian and Theodora, the imperial couple of the Byzantine Empire, with their court.
