The Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo was originally a palatine church and is probably the most important monument of Ravenna's imperial and early-Christian Roman period. Byzantine style mosaics covering two walls represent both Catholic and Arian beliefs. A series of mosaics depicts the life of Christ while others depict the Three Wise Kings and Ravenna's Roman port of Classe.
