Commissioned by Charles III of Spain who became the King of Naples, this presepe or nativity scene was the first to include figurines of people from everyday life.
Rome Christmas Pictures: Presepe or Nativity Scene at Saints Cosma and Damiano Church
James Martin, Europe Travel
The Church of Saints Cosma and Damiano, above the forum, displays one of the largest nativity scenes (open Friday - Sunday except in August, 9:00-1:00 and 3:00-6:00), made in the 18th century. This presepe started the Naples style nativity, which still includes figures from everyday life in addition to the traditional Christmas crib or manger. The city of Rome bought and restored the presepe. I visited the presepe as a guest on a Context Travel Rome walking tour
