Picture of Casina della Civette or House of the Owls

Casina della Civette, House of the Owls, is a whimsical building resembling a Swiss chalet designed in 1840 for Prince Giovanni Torlania. The building has good examples of high quality stained glass windows, created between 1908 and 1930. The 20 rooms of the Casina della Civette Museum hold mosaics and carved wooden panels but the main draw is the 54 stained glass windows, 18 decorative stained glass pieces, and more than 100 preparatory sketches for the stained glass designs. The name House of the Owls probably came from one of the stained glass works.
