Sanremo Best Western Hotel Nazionale
The 4-star Best Western Hotel Nazionale is a great place to stay in Sanremo. It has an excellent central location next to the Casino on Sanremo's main shopping street and it's an easy walk to the harbor and old section of town, la Pigna. Sanremo is on the coastal rail line and the hotel is about one kilometer from the train station.
On the ground floor are a restaurant with a good selection of dishes and a bar that has outside seating. The highlight of the hotel is the top floor roof deck and solarium with deck chairs and fantastic views of Sanremo and the sea.

Standard rooms are on the first through fifth floors of the hotel. They're small but modern and nicely decorated. Bathrooms have a stall shower.
On the sixth floor are the deluxe rooms, worth the extra price. These rooms have a separate sitting area with desk and flat screen television, small bedroom with closet and flat screen television, and a two-room bathroom. One part of the bathroom has a toilet and sink while the other part has a large sink area and jacuzzi bath with shower. Our deluxe room had a narrow balcony from which we watched a beautiful sunset over the sea.

Parking is offered by the hotel for an additional charge (book ahead) in a private garage - really a garage just for your car. After unloading our luggage at the hotel, the bellboy rode with me to the garage and assisted me in backing into it as it was fairly small. When we left he helped carry our bags to the car and showed us how to return to the autostrada. This parking arrangement is not so convenient if you want to use your car often but it is very secure.
Breakfast was adequate but expensive if it's not included in the room price. Wireless internet is available in the rooms and there are several computers in the lobby for guest use (with a fee). The entire hotel is air-conditioned and rooms have a mini-bar and coffee/tea maker. Meeting rooms are available. Staff was friendly and helpful and an English speaking staff person was always available at the front desk to answer questions.

Why Stay in Sanremo
Sanremo is one of the largest towns on the Riviera di Fiori, or Flowers Riviera, between Genoa and France (see location on map). This part of the coast has a temperate climate so Sanremo can be visited any time of year but summer crowds usually mean higher prices in the hotels. Sanremo has a tourist harbor, beaches with swimming, seafood restaurants, and bars with outside tables. The highlight of Sanremo is La Pigna, the pedestrian-only picturesque old town meandering up the hill with winding walkways and covered alleys.
We used Hotel Nazionale as a stopover on our way to Nice airport in France, about an hour away. It's also about an hour drive from Genoa airport.
