Pictures of Nora Archeology Site
Roman and Punic Site in Nora, Sardinia

From Martha Bakerjian, About.com

Nora is an archaeological site in southern Sardinia with Roman, Phoenician, and Punic remains. The town was founded in the 8th century BC by the Phoenicians but the area may have been inhabited prehistorically by the Nuraghic people. It was finally abandoned in the 7th or 8th century AD, following attacks by Vandals and pirates.

Nora Archaeological Zone is open daily at 9am with closing times changing by season. Admission in 2008 was 5.50 euro. The zone includes remains of four thermal baths, a theater and amphitheater as well as small houses and villas. Recently the forum, or agora, has been found. Much of Nora has not been excavated because part of it is in a military area and some is under the sea.

I visited Nora with Paola Loi, a very knowledgeable personal tour guide. Enjoy our pictures of Nora archaeological site. Click on the thumbnails to see them larger.
