Basilica San Marco, or St. Mark's Cathedral, was built in the 11th century using Eastern style architecture. Inside are treasures brought to Venice by returning sea captains, lots of stunning Byzantine mosaics and colored marble, and the bones of St. Mark. The Basilica is open daily, 9:45-4:30 or 5:00 except Sundays when it's open 2:00-4:00. Entrance to the Basilica is free but lines can be very long. No shorts or bare shoulders are permitted.
