St. Mark's Square

Piazza San Marco is lined with elegant historic buildings and expensive cafes, some with live music in the evening. Sitting at a cafe may be worth a splurge if you plan to stay there and enjoy the atmosphere for awhile. The main sites near the square are Basilica San Marco, the Doge's Palace, the Campanile (bell tower), and the Correr Museum. For photos without the crowds, go early before these sites open.
