Guide Review - Best Western Hotel Armando in Verona, Italy

Best Western Hotel Armando in Verona is a cut above the average 3-star hotel. Hotel Armando was remodeled in 2009 and the bathrooms are modern with plumbing that works well (not always the case in Italian hotels). Rooms are functional with average furniture and comfortable beds. The hotel is similar to many Best Western Hotels in the United States.

I especially liked the location of Best Western Hotel Armando. It's on a quiet street just inside the city walls of Verona, a better location than the many hotels just outside the walls, and a short walk from the Roman Amphitheater, making it ideal for attending an opera or for sight-seeing. Returning to the hotel after a day of sight-seeing was a pleasant escape from the tourist crowds. See hotel location on this Verona Map.

Another plus is Antica Trattoria Tipica - Enoteca al Bersagliere right next door. We had a very good meal, not too expensive. The restaurant serves local specialties and is a good place to try local wines. Most of the diners were Italian and many of them seemed to be locals, but the menu has an English translation and one waiter spoke English.

Hotel staff were welcoming and efficient although not overly friendly. English-speaking staff seemed to always be available at the front desk. Breakfast was above average for a 3-star Italian hotel.

I recommend Best Western Hotel Armando as a good 3-star hotel for staying Verona. Although it's not charming, not right in the center, and rooms don't have views, the hotel is well-located, quiet, clean, and functional. I encountered no problems during my two-night stay and would not hesitate to stay there again.
