What do you write about in your blog?
My blog is about living and traveling in Calabria, Italy. I post weekly travel tips-usually Italy-specific, as well as southern Italian recipes, destination highlights and updates on the ever-changing life of an expat in Italy.
Why Did You Start Your Blog?
I started blogging in 2006-just two months after I arrived in Calabria-as a way to share my new experiences with family and friends in Texas. Over the years it has evolved into a way for me to market my adopted region and share all of the wonderful things I've discovered about Calabria.
My Calabrese husband and I also own a bed and breakfast and I offer travel consulting services for visitors traveling to southern Italy, so the blog is a good place for Calabria-bound travelers to meet us and ask questions about traveling to the area.
Advice
- Rent a car! Public transportation can be unreliable and frustrating.
- Budget more time than you think you should. Most of the guests who visit our B&B complain about the lack of time they have to explore Calabria. They've never complained of having "too much" time.
- Be prepared for the differences. Calabria is not only different from your home country-there are vast differences between northern Italy and my Calabria.
